How To Make A Whiteboard Animation Unique And Fun

idea-to-successWhiteboard animations are becoming popular enough now that you can’t just animate anything if you want to stand out. The trick is to not only make sure that the animation not only grabs people’s attention right from the beginning, and then keeps it throughout the presentation, but to also get your objectives in terms of information transmission accomplished. Doing both at once can be a bit of a challenge sometimes, but there are a few things you can do to get it done.

Don’t Forget Call to Action

This is after all, the most important part of your presentation, and generally it should go at the end of the animation. There’s no reason why you can’t make it fun though. A lot of people will make their call to action something peppy and hopeful, for example. When you’re doing it in an animation instead of just in print, it can be even easier to strike the right tone. Upbeat music, for example, can help your audience feel energetic enough to go out and do what you want them to do. You can also show characters performing the action in the animation you draw.

Video Quality

One important way to stand out from other animations is to pay particular attention to video quality. A lot of other people are just going to shoot the whole thing from a shakey camera phone. If you want to stand out, then go the extra mile by getting your hands on a quality camera with a stand. Lighting is also going to be quite important as well.  As a result, you should go with something like a 1000w construction lamp to make it easy to see what’s happening. Many whiteboard animation videos just use whatever lighting happens to be lying around, making it really hard to see what’s going on, in addition to giving awkward shadows.

Use Great Audio

Audio can be a real problem in these animations as well, since if you don’t have a budget to go to a professional recording studio; it can be hard to get decent sound. There are ways to do this though. The important thing is to stand out from the people who don’t put any real effort into sound at all. You can tell this is the case by listening to see if there’s any extra extraneous sounds in the audio narration, or depending on the quality of the voice acting. If you don’t have access to voice acting talent and instead have to do the audio yourself, the important thing is to give yourself time to get it right. Real life voice actors will say every line multiple times, since there are a hundred ways to say any particular line. You can often make up for a lack of formal education in this matter by simply doing a lot of takes until it sounds right to your ears.

Other Considerations

One way to make sure that you get good audio if you don’t have access to a sound booth is to try to improvise, such as by using two sofas. You can put the sofas on their sides vertically, and create a bit of an audio dead zone, just like a sound booth. That way you can record the audio for your whiteboard animation right in there while having no extra noise at all. This will make you stand out from the rest of the animations right away. People will always notice quality, and it always makes it much easier to make your animation unique and fun.

Overall, if you don’t have the time to do it yourself, it can also be advantageous to farm out Whiteboard Animation to Infographic World, as just one example of a place you can go, though there are many on the Internet.

Animated Short Films are the Way to Go for Online Video Marketing

Animated videos have become a mainstay in online video marketing but not many companies have gotten it right.  Chipotle is an exception! If you haven’t seen these videos by Chipotle then you’ve missed, not only a great marketing campaign, but emotionally charged videos with a great message behind them. This is exactly what people want to share online, something that’s short, gets a point across, emotional and thought provoking.  Chipotle is leading the way with online video marketing but they’re also taking a step in the right direction by taking a moral and eco-friendly stand by utilizing locally based and minimally processed foods.

Here is the first one they made in 2012 called “Back to the Start” which won the 2012 Cannes Grand Prix:

Here is the follow up animated short film called “Scarecrow” which I believe will win another award:

Both videos were made in conjunction with CAA Marketing.

By Peter Marino, the owner and CDO of reelWebDesign.com and SocialMediaMarketing.co, both of which are website development and social media marketing companies in NYC.
