Search Marketing Explained
Search Marketing Demystified
Search Engine Marketing – Consists of 4 closely tied marketing efforts:
1. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results for specific keywords, or the higher it "ranks," the more searchers will visit that site.
2. Social Media Optimization (SMO) is the method of improving your search ranking and trying to get one's content more widely distributed across multiple social media services by incorporating links to social bookmarking sites such as reddit, wordpress, technorati, youtube etc. An example is including an introductory video on your website and submitting it to YouTube.com with an embed this video option on your website. This is a tried and true SMO technique that can bring more attention, and therefore, potentially more business to your company.
3. Pay Per Click (PPC) is the process of paying for clickable ads on sites such as Google.com in which your ad shows up on the page when someone types in keywords that you have chosen. You set the cost for each click and how much you'd like to spend each month. Good keyword research is necessary for this to be effective.
4. Social Media Marketing is about giving a company or brand the opportunity for fans to endorse and recommend their product or service through multiple online social media venues such as blogs and vidcasts. Some social media marketers can initiate a buzz or excitment by offering to write content that is remarkable, unique, and newsworthy. This content can then be marketed by popularizing it or by creating a “viral” video on YouTube and other video sites. It also included getting involved in blogs, forums, and niche communities to bring public awareness to your company.
